Read this thread and decide for yourself..
Also, it depends a lot on your skill set, so a search on Jobserve will tell you if there is anything worth while out there..The "Fit" hits the "Shan" -
I'm looking at the moment too. All I can say is there's more people looking for Engineers than you could shake a stick at..."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark TwainComment

I'd say it's a decent risk if you are in IT. Like I said on the other thread C# roles in London banking seen to have vanished overnight. You might get a contract but you need some savings as when that finishes who knows what state the market will be in. You should be able to survive at least 3 months (ideally 6) without work before you start and at all times when you are contracting.Originally posted by Jaded View PostI am seriously considering becoming a contractor, just not sure this is the right time to move, with the state of the economy etc - what do people think? Confidence
Jaded - you look like - most important thing a contractor should have is confidence. This comes from knowledge and experience. If you haven't got both, you need at least one in abundance. You have to walk in in a new environment and work with people who you've never seen before and expect to 'hit the ground running' (without falling!). For me, the difference between those that are contractors and the ones wishing to be is confidence in themselves. Nobody can instill that in you, apart from yourself.Comment
