    Everyone's favourite dilemma

A few successful interviews on the same day have delivered me with a nice problem but not much time to solve it.

What do folks think of these options?

    1. Local contract on reasonable money for 3 months min
Reasonable work at a commutable distance.

    2. Live away UK contract on same money for 3 months min
Interesting work that'll enhance the CV nicely.

    3. Live away UK contract on same money + £50PD for 3 month min
    Reasonable work, comfy working environment.

    4. Live away Swiss contract on reasonable money for long term
Get banking/equity on the CV, some support/weekend work.

Switzerland was interesting but I wouldn't see much of family/friends. It seems a nice place to dodge the gathering storm and buff my CV but I'd be less happy

With all that in mind I'm thinking of number one, but it's a close run thing.

I would go with which ever option gives more potential and options for the future. I great thing about contracting (so I'm told) is the diversity and being exposed to new and developing technology, if you can catch the demand while the technology is slightly immature you can find yourself in a strong position.

So if a contract is offering something you would like on your CV or something which is obviously missing, then that probably the best one to go for.

It's be number 1 for me.

Would take more than £50 or a bit of a CV boost to tempt me to work away from home (which I am currently doing)
It's about time I changed this sig...

          I depends where in Switzerland, I s'pose...

Not sure about Basel/Zürich - I much preferred the Geneva/Vaud area...

In these difficult times, I would go for the long term contract every time. Hence the fondue. Plus the OP will have the banking exp and the chance to pick up German/French/Italian depending on location.

              It's a no-brainer. If you're a homebird or family type take (1)

Unless you are really cheap £50 will not cover your expenses and hassle of work away contract. £100+ is needed.

If you are single and adventurous the Swiss option is definitely a good bet, but again you will have many expenses to cover, and you will be paying Swiss tax/NI which is not low. This would need a decent rate as well, and make sure you get some income projections for this.

You my friend have some cracking skills/experience and interview technique. I congratulate you on having this many offers to choose from. I have never had more than one, making the decision a lot easier.
For me - it would be 1 every time, however :
                - Consider playing one off against the others to negotiate a higher rate and take the one who offers it.
                - Experience likely to grant access to higher future rates might be a smart move.

I'd take the overseas position. Always an experience to do this stuff. So much closer to the Alps too (for next season)

Excuse me, but I found that Swiss tax was low. Total deductions including health were 26%. And rates are decent. Certainly get income projections: I worked direct once and via a well-known payroll company once and both times their income projections were spot-on.
