It is not incorrect to use two spaces after a full stop. I was taught to type on manual typewriters and in those days it was the convention. I still find it clearer to read, especially in technical text.

Agreed, in the UK we tend to use single quote marks for quotes in publishing, so it should have been 'cause and effect'.

If that is what you are pulling me up on, I don't feel too bad.

Strictly speaking the use of semicolons would have been wrong in the context written as each bullet point is highlighting a completely separate issue.

I never stated it was incorrect but merely old fashioned; the more accepted standard in modern word processing and the internet age is just one space after a full stop.

The above statement is a good example of how to use a semicolon.

I have come to the conclusion you are as much a tongue-in-cheek, pedantic old scrote as I am. I shall not bother reciprocating. Instead, I shall say this:

Should our paths cross in real life, I'll stand you a couple of pints of something warm, flat and hoppy. I suspect we could put the world to rights between us.

Have a good weekend, you Bolshie git.

          Lol, spot on BrownIssue!

Although I would have to agree with you, the standard of English demonstrated by our part-time contracting academic friend here is worrying (sorry if you are reading this, I hope you wrote it in a hurry). Just friendly advice nothing more; this is the kind of thing that an employer or client may pick up on! Especially for someone who has been through the upper echelon of our education system (or almost as you have stated).

Anyway as already stated by several people here for what it's worth you are probably better off PAYE/Umbrella; unless of course you are being offered excessive sums breaking you through the higher rate tax bracket off the back of a 2 day week contract.

Forgot to add, if you are considering going the 'Limited Company' route after a few contracts under your belt, then you need to read up and educate yourself on the implications of IR35, Director responsibilities, required insurances as well as consideration of an accountant to help run your company finances/taxes/payroll/returns (assuming you are not capable yourself).

It's not impossible, but it's not as straight forward to think that setting a company up is an easy alternative to Umbrella/PAYE.

The original entry was edited to be wrong as a piece of fun. However many Wikipedia entries are edited due to someone else's agenda i.e. companies who don't like what is written about them, or due to a lack of knowledge around the subject area. Therefore don't quote from Wikipedia if you want to be taken seriously in an argument and win it.

BTW S Club 7's version was written and composed by Cathy Dennis and Andrew Todd. Someone changed the Wikipedia entry to state the late Ronnie Hazlehurst composed it, and the BBC reported this on their news programs when they announced his death.

That is very true indeed, however in defense of this it could be pointed out that Wikipedia entries are often referenced and can be independently verified at the source of citation. Like all good research though it should be verified through multiple sources (if possible) then evaluated by means of a critical appraisal using the information at hand. For the purpose of a simple forum discussion Wikipedia can suffice but granted there may be the occasional red herring.

I saw this on another forum recently, it made me laugh!

Conclusion: The BBC researcher in this instance must have been out on the piss the night before.
