want to go direct for extension

Hi all,

Been on my current gig ( 2cnd gig) for 6 months, spoke to the client and they would like me to extend for another 6 months, and im happy to.

Though im not happy with my agent. i havent heard frmo them since start of contract, except when i had to ring up and ask to send me a renewal contract.

xmas went by emailed the agent - nothing in reply. i may be whinging a bit but i think common courtesy would be to at least send a standard email out to all you contrractors.

Also the Agency recently changed ownership ( got bought out by another larger agency) they didnt communicate this.

basically my client is paying some jumped up tw*t for absoloutely nothing, and my client isnt happy with them either and would also like me to go direct.

is there anyway around this as the contract states i can work directly for client within 6 months

nb. my client operates as many different companies under one name.....

you have two choices.

1) Risk getting sued.

2) Buy them out.

You cannot sack them just because they don't seem to do anything.

If the client doesn't like the margin then he should negotiate it down. He holds all the cards here.

Are you really that bothered your agent didn't wish you Happy Christmas!!

He did get you the work in the first place, unfortunately it's par for course when contracting through an agency.

Just do what I did.

I got a gig through an agency (current gig). Asked agent to send contract. Heard nothing for a few months (seriously) its all ad-hoc work so not fussed as the contract was b-2-b to cover confidentiality etc and just get me should they need some.

After 3months me and the client went direct. Not heard anything from the agent...hmm.

I got the chance of going direct on the sly in my current gig, I've been there before and decided it wasn't worth the hastle as they were just going to give me the same money. A colleague took the option and is now worrying all the time. We had the same agent and the agent has asked me twice now which contractors are still on site. I waffled when answering each time and didn't grass them up. Can I have an orange please !

If you didn't opt out before you met the client, then you can go direct after 8 weeks as the clause in the contract would be unenforceable.

If that bit is true and not a typo then there is nothing stopping you from working direct.

Are you sure it doesn't say that you can't work directly for the client within six months?
