Contract expires end of next week. Renewal till end of June confirmed only yesterday.
Trouble is:
a) After 2 years (current project 1 year), I'm totally hacked off with client incompetence
b) I'm totally hacked off with project.
c) Only took last renewal to see project go live, but still waiting due to a) above.
d) been waiting 4 weeks for renewal offer confirmation.
e) Project has been relocated to location at very limit of acceptable commute and I'm hacked off with the round trip of 2h15m on a good day.
There are a couple of opportunities available at a previous client, one especially on very strategic project in area I did a strategy review for them on 2 years ago. Reckon I have good chance of getting one or other, but they are dragging their heels getting round to interviews.
Do I
1) Ditch current client and get settled in somewhere else now, bearing in mind the market seems to be dipping.
2) Accept renewal for as long as they get offered and hope to stay long enough for market to pick up.
Without wishing to blow my own trumpet, they'll be in real trouble if I go, not that I care about their managers, but my manager is a guy I worked for before and the only competent one.
TBH I think I've made my mind up, I'm just lookng for validation and excuses! I want to keep my ex-manager on-side for future references, and am looking way out that will not permanently ostracize me with the client given the lateness of the rejection.
(Yes I know I should have made the decision before now, but a bereavement of a close relative over Xmas after a long illness kind of distracted me and I felt in no fit state to make a decision!)
