gwildfire, If the agent has asked permission for a credit check its normally because financials do not employ staff (perm or contr) with CCJs

I had a flat repossessed during the Thatcher/Lamont years and got a CCJ, I was NOT asked about this and started the contract with NatWest in the City

After working 3 days, I was taken to an office to be fired

I made a complaint to Spring IT's MD because the agent did not inform me of the credit check or the implications

Spring eventually paid me for the entire month in compensation

      What's the problem?

It's the client insisting on credit checks, not the agency. Mandatory in the City (and elsewhere) dear boy. If you are planning to work in finance and you've had defaults/CCJs etc, don't bother.
      C'est la vie.

If Spring (scumbags) had to cough up the dosh, then Thank You!

I agree - I have credit checked agencies in the past if I haven't worked for them before.
