How good is "the market" for your skills at the moment? If it's looking a bit ropey for getting £500 a day, then you may be better off keeping schtum and taking the £55k.

I'd rather be on a 'real' contract than a pseudo-permie role.

For those that are interested, through various meetings and little chat's in the corridor I got offered work till March 2009 and 400 a day, reasonable deal I thought, so I took it

Regards the roll, I hear that you can get good ones in bombay

Well done Porty - not a bad move from your previous "rate" eh. March 2009 sounds like a long time but remember that the contract is only as good as the notice period in it

Having managed to talk my way into moving from an hourly to a daily rate my advice would always be that you need to be able to back up your worth.

I went from a 32ph rate to 320pd rate but managed to also get weekend working at 1.5x the hourly equivalent rate, this meant that I stuck to my 7.5 hour days, worked weekends (including travelling time) and earned more money simply by knowing what my experience was worth.

Document what you do, what technologies you deal with and how much interaction you have with people and generally speaking that will let the agent\company know how much work and expertise you have.

Next role I am looking at is paying between 350 - 400pd, not bad considering 8 months ago I was only earning 240pd (excluding OT of which I had loads at the time of negotiations).
