contract to end early

At the start of this year the company where I'm contracting asked me to sign up for 12 months and gave me a rate increase...luvly!

About two months ago they recruited another contractor from off-shore at a much lower rate to do exactly the same job as there was enough work to justify it.

Now funds have been pulled for new projects and the work coming through has significantly reduced and I'm worried that Management will realise this and make cuts in my area so I have a few questions.

1. Even though my contract runs until the end of the year I guess if there is no work to do they can just tell me to go, correct?

2. If they do that but keep the newer contractor just because they pay them less do I have anything to throw back at them?

1. What is the notice period (if any) in your contract?
2. Nope, they have just found a cheaper supplier. Nothing wrong with that.

As per the contact I cant give notice but they can at no notice....looks like it might be Jobserve time for me!!

Possibly, but don't cave in that easily. If your competitor's offshore and you're on site ,you should have much better client contacts, and be able to get him booted out instead of you.

Time to start some sabotage

A permie got me on a contract once - he gradually took more and more work away from me, and then went to management and said "what are we paying this guy for, he's got no work!". I was the second contractor he got rid of that way - it doesn't discredit the other person, it just shows that there is no point in paying them if they aren't doing anything.
