    Contract cut short - advice?

Supposed to be finishing up my contract on the 10th, Agency have just told me that the bank want me to finish up on 3rd (a week early) basically because the project is on hold. They only have to give 1 weeks notice, but they could have told me a couple of weeks ago, I assumed it was staying till the 10th. So a little p*ssed off. I'm just going through my contract trying to find a way for me to stay till 10th. I noticed this:

"8.1 This Agreement may be terminated prior to the expiry of the Period by the Agency giving 1 week’s notice in writing to the Supplier"

So does this mean if I don't receive anything in writing then notice has not been given? The weeks notice starts when I receive that letter?

Yes, looks like you could do, as it's in the contract but expect that you'll burn any bridge to this agent again in the future! Is it worth it? Could they get you another gig?

Agreements don't need to be written. Verbal termination is valid, obviously you could claim you didn't have the conversation, which is why written notice is better.
          I'm alright Jack

Is there not something in the contract that says that you don't get paid if you don't work? Normally there is, which is why a notice period is useless.

Are there any other grounds for termination that they could get you for? I fell for a clause in my first contract that allowed immediate termination if the client wasn't happy - all they said was "we're not happy" and I was out the door...

Suck it up and find another contract / go on holiday.
