One man band to consultancy firm?

Hi there, I'm starting to think about ways to start pitching for my own contract based work and running my business full time.

I already have a few clients but the revenue generated is not enough to sustain a full time business yet.

What I've decided is ill try and get a more solid client base while also contracting to pay the bills.

What I wanted to know was has anyone make this jump fully and how did you acheive it? I mean I know I need some kind of sales to back me up along with a few more people to carry out the work. I'm thinking along the lines of direct marketing or some sort of low cost marketing to get my company name out there and business coming in. I currently have a website but despite having quite a few hits, it doesnt really generate me any income at all.

Also does anyone know of any kind of sales/marketing agency that does commission based work, ideally I'd want someone on board full time but maybe this is an option for the time being.

My biggest problem at the moment is lack of capital in the company, I need to cut back on paying myself and build up some money in the company, but hey I know that

Try and get on that dragons den with that business plan and see if they bank roll it.

I'm doing the transisiton from contractor to proper business owner.

After the next set of exams are out of the way (need to take a total of 24 exams!!! - wtf!) to get the regulatory stuff out of the way then I can take the contract that I have been offered.

Problem is that I need to get the £221,000 in capital first (bank said they will lend it based on seeing a contract).

tulip thats alot of money, id rather not get into debt that deep in case things got tits up. Ive started small, I need to focus on building captial and gradually taking on larger and larger projects, it's getting enough business through the door first to get the ball rolling.

Tell me about it. Some of that I wont ever (hopefully need) just you have to prove cash reserves in order to get your licence to operate.

UNfortunatly lgvs are not cheap. I'm looking at £50,000 for a second hand with 600,000 kms on the clock. £15,000 for a trailer. Oh, and then standing costs of £250 a day each (will be 4).

Ah well, give it a go. So far the sums are adding up. At least I can say that I tried.
