I have been offered my first contract and the agency asks for Professional Indemnity Insurance and Public Liability insurance showing/detailing cover to a minimum value of £1m .Is this common? if yes then any suggestion on the company that i shud approach for? Please help as it is pretty urgent

Yes it's common.
I bought mine from Trafalgar although I believe the PCG also have an offering (and you may want to consider joining them anyway)...

join contractor alliance and you get 20% discount on insurances. I did this and saved over a hundred quid.Comment

Prof Indemnity
For the above three you are looking at anywhere between £180 - £380 depending upon your PI level of cover needed from Randal Dorling.
