Go for the PCG - they are much more than an insurance company after all.

The "no politics" bit would be a major plus point for Contractor Alliance for me personally. The PCG is rife with internal politics from what I could tell, much to it's own detriment. One only needs to look at the iProfile debacle for an example of this - all talk and no action.

I have to agree, they (we?) are in danger of losing sight of their own objectives. However (and declaring an interest up front!) I think the PCG deal is possibly superior to the CA one in terms of coverage and added value, but it's not really comparing like-for-like. PCG for all its faults does sterling work in representing the interests of contractors and I wouldn't like to see that limited by lack of membership.

There was lots of grumbling about iProfiles and the management committee (or whatever they are called) said they would get in touch with the makers (Skillsmarket). Meetings were set up and attended. Skillsmarket said they'd do X in time frame Y. Then they didn't. So more meetings were set up. Skillsmarket said they really promised to do it this time. They still didn't. More meetings were set up. Ad infinitum...

They refused to get tough preferring the softly softly approach, even though Skillsmarket were taking the piss. That incident just demonstrated to me how toothless the PCG actually are, as well as how unwilling they are to actually rectify the situation. All the successes the PCG claims to have with regards to legal cases or IR35 etc, are actually all successes of 3rd parties. The organisation themselves doesn't seem to be able to organise the proverbial drinking session in a brewery. It's the committee syndrome with too much internal politics in action...

ah well, at an individual level i got my details removed from iprofile so I was happy with that...

Are you sure? I've done that three times now, but I still get agencies calling me up with out of date CV information from various iProfiles accounts...

I'm sure. I don't seem to get iprofile agencies calling me but i get a few standard queries from agents with old CV's on their databases. I usually reply with a standard 'you have 28 days to remove my details in accordance with the dpa...blah...blah...blah' and they do remove it.

I like to target my CV's to particular gigs and those gigs only. Pimps do sound confused when I tell them NOT to distribute my CV round the office and to remove the CV from their system when this particular gig is closed.

All the above means my spam count is low though...
