For flats there tends to be a six month lease but I have never found a problem negotiating shorter terms with landlords. Just ask.

Macclesfield is nice Bob, close to the peak district and the posh parts of cheshire. Why not try the local paper

I imagine a hard copy is likely to have the short-term arrangement you are looking for
I remember the good old days of this site when people used to moan about serious contractor related issues like house prices and immigration. How times have changed!?

BOBJ - I'm contracting in Macclesfield myself although I live locally. I know a few people who let in the area - care to PM me?

To hedge your bets you could put up with temp accommodation for the first few weeks of a contract till you can gauge the chances of a renewal.

As far as letting agents and finance companies are concerned I'm an employee of a ltd company (that I happen to own), occupation is IT Consultant, earning whatever amount per year they want to hear (letter from my accountant or favourite company director usually suffices). Had absolutely no problems with any finance or lettings so far. Just got to tell them what they want to hear and work out how to provide confirmation without bending the truth too much. Friends who'll give you a reference for whatever you want them to say are worth having too

Bollington's actually worth buying somewhere if you have the cash - usually easy to let afterwards.

I ended up with a city centre one, which'll do the job. I had thought about buying once I get an extension - this place has contractors coming out of their ears so you'd always have a reasonable market.
