How to get paid on time

It's from the point of view of journalists, but it applies to us too.

    Good article jacko...thanks!

Many years ago I didn't get paid for 8 months while a major blue-chip client outsourced their (perfectly good) finance department. My co was direct and it was chaos. Big companies had stopped trading with them (TNT and others) and even though I had the writing on the invoice, I didn't know the correct way to procede with things - you always feel that you are the underdog and are at the whim of their mistakes.

However, I did manage to negotiate subsequent contracts with them for some very hefty upfront and stage payements based on their previous underperformance.
If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my fingers.

Thanks for that Jacko, that's full of good ideas.
Phoning up and agreeing a date on which to turn up at their office in person to pick up the cheque is another one.
