Retracting Notice

If they served notice that they are terminating the contract as long as you fufil the contract (i.e. the notice period) then there is nothing that they can do.

I have never come across any comeback for a contractor on even the most blatant badly handled contract breaking other than verbal threats. You can usually work out agreed leaving dates whatever the situation. I only once was told I couldn't leave but went on a go slow for a few days and they soon saw sense and agreed I could leave. Sounds like its time to leave anyway so keep job hunting.

Yes - agency rang up to gave formal notice and apparently letter is in the post.

I know I have been shafted a few times in the past but always pride myself on never breaking a contract. This one was a bad one and luckily they have made the decision for me (still had 5 months to run)

as long as you fulfil the notice period you can walk -if the client asks you to stay you could always see if you could contract direct rather than through an agency - might get you a better rate with out the % going to the agency.

You'd be obliged to stay until the end of the notice period.

If they want you to stay, negotiate a new contract starting the day after your notice period ends - obviously you might want to consider raising your rate considerably and perhaps adding a terminate-early £ amount (payable if they give you notice again!)
