Seeing both recruiter layoffs and hires at the moment on Linkedin. One of the new hires was a new contracts recruitment manager for an agency.
I guess some agencies are going to the wall or downsizing, whilst others are positioned well for recovery, anticipating expansion.Comment

Now that so many jobs are advertised online, it's never been easier for candidates to access large amounts of job vacancies easily. But paradoxically, it's never been so difficult to stand out or get found online when a job can get a thousand or more applications. This week, a company recruiter interviewed by the BBC complained that 60% of applications they received were 'irrelevant' making it so much more difficult to sort through the chaff to find the potential good applicants.
Recruiters now have the same problem. I've been working with a big national UK agency since March to recruit about 25 people, mostly perms but a few contractors. The quality of their shortlists seems to be worse than I've seen in the past and I think that's down to the effort to sift through large volumes of candidates.
I've seen past research showing that online/job board applicants are around 10 times less likely to be interviewed for a perm role compared to someone who has been referred to the company. I expect the figure for a contract recruiter referral is not as strong but would still be quite advantageous. Last week I got referred by a long term recruiter contact to one of his colleagues who had a new contract role and got an interview from it. Every bit helps.
It doesn't necessarily work for all roles/sectors but it's a useful addition in your job hunting armoury. It can also help reduce the energy sapping/soul destroying 'apply for anything online' approach. I've lost count of the number of people I've seen post on LinkedIn recently saying they've applied for 100-200 or more jobs and haven't even got one interview.Last edited by edison; 23 July 2020, 08:53.Comment
