Expenses when extending business trip

Attended business meeting to discuss deliverables and dates for remote contract. Will raise an invoice to client for travel and hotel.

However, the guy who's handing over to me is leaving very soon. As such, rather than lose several hours of the day travelling back (a minimum of six hours), I'm minded to extend my stay a couple more days. Screen sharing from the train might be a bit fragile...

Is it reasonable in these circumstances to expense any resultant hotel nights and refreshment to my ltd? To be fair, I could head back on a late train. So to some extent, this is a personal preference. But equally, I am likely to be in a better position to ensure a smooth handover this way. It's business-savvy.

Fwiw, I might even stay beyond all this a couple of extra nights to visit the city -- which I will definitely pay out of pocket.

Are there rules about what constitutes a reasonable level of expense for a given hotel? Price I'm paying is completely outrageous, but normal if that makes sense (central-ish London, midweek, booked at the last minute).

Not that would affect us really I'd say. Bearing in mind you can get hotel rooms and suites costing 1000's a night I doubt any contractor would get close to paying rates HMRC might start to question.
