New contract - Job description

Hi guys,

Been contracting in the past via my own Ltd although recently permie for a while. Now a role has come up that I'm interested in. Supposedly contract based as I happen to know the chap I could eventually replace.

However just received a more definitive albeit generic job description than what was originally advertised and some wording has me questioning its status wrt IR35 specifically direction and control;

"The Project Manager will define the day-to-day priorities for the Lead Engineer, with line management support given by the Design Manager. The role will require work on more than one project concurrently".

My role in the above would be as Lead Engineer, my guess is the wording represents a slam dunk in terms of direction and control or am I over thinking this?

Doesn't sound fantastic I must admit but not the end of the world. Get it over to QDOS to review the contract for you and they will help negotiate a better contract for you. I'm sure with the right words it will look better.

As far as I understand from your post this is the JD, not the contract, most JDs are copy/paste jobs with little, to no thought put into them.

As long as the contract wording is appropriate (as mentioned the likes of QDOS can help you with that) and the actual work practice is acceptable (ask your inside man?), you can ignore the rambling in the JD.
