Take one week without invoicing, go and enjoy Cuba.

If you were to decide to do work from there, having lied about your location, and something happened to your client's laptop, I don't think a week's invoicing would cover it.
...and if you're that desperate to get a week's invoicing in, then cancel your holiday to Cuba.
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

Cuba is awesome. There's way more to do than sitting on a beach for a week. Sounds like you're going to Varadero, the all inclusive resort where you could be anywhere in the world except you pay more for a lower quality product due to all the trade embargoes.

Get out and about and experience the country. The people are great, the food is bland and not all that great (take chilli oil/flakes as they have NO spices in their food).

You do know that internet access in Cuba is only available at specific locations via the national public wifi, costs about £1 an hour, and is slower than walking through treacle in wellies?

You won't be able to work from Cuba, so problem solved.

Yes, that's very true. Forgot about that.

Importantly, if you did hook your US IB laptop up to a Cuban internet, and then try and VPN in to their network (I assume the laptop is virtually useless from an internet point of view without the VPN), then either they'll be blocking Cuban IP, or they'll at least be monitoring for it. Your username and a Cuban IP together in the logs. Expect that they will know.

The punishment could well be worse than simple contract termination, but there could also be criminal action also.

Working in banking, you'll have done the mandatory compliance training, all the AML, Fighting Financial Crime and Sanctions stuff, right?

Leave the laptop at home, and enjoy your holiday. Contractors should be enjoying the flexibility for more time off rather than working every hour that god sends.
