I would be very wary of Computer People. They did a similar thing to me earlier this year. Went for interview, got offered the role, CP gave me a start date and then changed it twice assuriing me there was no problem and it was just a matter of sorting out paperwork. It turned out that CP could not agree terms with the client and the role fell through. You can imagine that I was a wee bit pissed off as I had turned down other interviews in the meantime.

Technically yes you can claim some sort of compensation because Computer People have renaged on the contract. However it probably isn't worth it. You would need to see a lawyer.
Just get a new contract and walk, citing no work as the reason.I'm alright JackComment
