    Public vs. Private sector contractors

    Hello,

I'm brand new to contracting and started my first gig this week.

I have been reading this forum for the past 2 months now and have been following along with the IR35 changes to public sectors.
I have seen a lot of contractors state they are going to go umbrella instead of moving to the private sector, which leads me to ask...

Is the work you do specific only to the public sector that it doesn't exist in the private sector? I thought it would have been an easy decision to just move to the private sector...? Is there an actual difference in work/jobs available?

P.s. I specialise in web development/JavaScript, so my skills cover both so I'm just a bit curious

Yes, if you are good enough and not just a chancer you should be able to switch to private sector without any fuss. But there are some on 800 quids a day in some obscure council or something, who are just clinging on to the gravy train because they are not capable of anything else, they will suffer.
Vote Corbyn ! Save this country !

I see plenty of advice saying umbrella is an option if you are staying but I certainly see many saying they are going to do that. I do however see reams of advice saying leave and more than a number of people that already have.

Not sure what you've been reading.
