Advice:- I want to build a CMS / e-commerce site

I live in a small town of around 1,400 people in Ireland and I want to build a "What's on in Moville" type site. I've reserved the domain name www.CraicOn.com. If it's successful I want to expand it elsewhere.

I want to have articles about what the craic is at the various pubs and restaurants and what is going to be on at various places during the week, e.g. local bands, discoes, trad music sessions, pub quizzes, Texas Hold' Em etc. as well as reviews after it has happened.

I'd want local restaurants to be able to put their menus and prices up.

I also want to be able to show local crafts and products such as from the local pottery shop or a local girl who makes handbags. I want to be able to show and sell these in an e-commerce type system.

I expect I'll need a CMS package plus an E-Commerce package.

I've already cotancted a few web site designers but of anybody here knows anybody that can do this kind of thing or can give advice please feel free.

I find OSCommerce to be a decent e-commerce package and completely free (if you want to try a demo look at http://shop.ardescosolutions.com and http://shop.ardescosolutions.com/admin)

I have contact details for a few web designers at home which I will post later (if i remember)

Look mate, I'm really sorry - I was testing out the security of this bunch of Clowns as I too am looking for a decent e-commerce package... and I think I may have just deleted your bath salts

Hehe, it's a demo shop, nothing on it is live. It is simply there for people to mess about with to give people a feel for OSCommerce.

If it was live the admin area would be asking you for a username/password and you wouldn't be able to randomly add/delete stuff.

Just about any IT contractor should be able to do the job you describe.

What field do you normally contract in?

It's more about getting the right CMS and e-commerce packakes and integrating them rather than building them from scratch.

                http://www.opensourcecms.com/

                All opensource.

This lets you try them out too.

                enjoy

osCommerce is DANGEROUS. Do NOT use it.

                    http://www.opensourcecms.com/

Shows a large number of CMS's not just osCommerce.

I think the idea is to evaluate whats out there.

Im not recommending any specific application.

                    (Though I like e107 myself)

                    error

(Im sure there is lots of dangerous stuff in the list TBH)
