Career Advisor

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has used a Career Advisor which they can recommend? I am currently a Senior PMO Manager but looking for a complete change and need help to work it through. Ideally someone in the South East that I could meet in person (I’m in London)

Any local council run Career Advice Centres near you, or do they not exist anymore ?

Local councils and libraries offer this but Your wasting your time, they don't normally deal with people at your level they only deal with the great unwashed getting them back into cheap low level jobs.

Contractors don’t have careers any more than a small builder does. They simply have a series of assignments.



You could try developing different service offerings or move into another line of business.


If you’ve been contracting for more than say five years, it’s not possible to return to a permanent role with any real credibility.

I remember seeing the Career Advisor at school. He asked what plans I had for after sixth form and I told him I was applying for Computer Systems Engineering at university. Then he looked a bit blank and said "Something in computers then? I don't know anything about that. Well good luck".

I thanked him and left.

I can't imagine grown up career advice is much better. I had a colleague who went into the local career advice centre only to be told it was a carer advice centre. And I'm not making that up.
