I would say 'I work in the city' makes one sound like a bit of a dick.

(I would say that some industries may have higher pressure, eg, investment banking, but that is not because its in the city, but because of the environment. eg, the same gig in Edinburgh might have the same pressures)

I was recruited as a senior professional - turns out I am assigned Jiras in two weekly sprints just like everyone else.

The rate is decent so I am not bothered about my lack of autonomy.

I don't know any senior technologist picking up Jira tickets in a sprint. You may have a few years under your belt, you're not senior though.

Pretty much every company I have engaged with (including the start ups I started) has operated some form of sprint where the team members pick up the tickets they are cable of handling from the sprint. Juniors through to principle engineers.

Sure I often find myself working on specialist projects where I am the only guy doing the project but many times I pick up tickets out of a sprint to contribute to the wider success of the team / projects.

We seem to be operating some weird sort of willy waving at the moment around here. My dads bigger than you dad stuff. None of it based in reality.

Anyway, the market still pants but thankfully I start a new gig on Monday and it runs to December

I don't really think you know what you are talking about.

If you want to remain technical then you have to align with the methodology the firm uses to deliver new capability and my present client chooses this particular approach.
