Partial success. Have a part time contract starting next Wednesday. Minimum of two days a week and not great money (although WFH) but might need to more work and eventually full time.

Done through someone I have through before. Seems to be the only game in town at the moment.

Day rates for consultants advising on government projects can reach thousands of pounds per day. Executives at Boston Consulting Group, one of the three largest US advisory firms, were charged out to the government at rates of around £7,000 a day to work on developing the UK’s test-and-trace system.

It’s difficult to gauge rates at an ‘MBB’ firm (McKinsey/BCG/Bain.) They historically priced up assignments (AKA cases) on an individual basis rather than use a rate card. According to a US equivalent of FOI, for government work, McKinsey has a top day rate of $16,000 which is about £12k.

A £7k a day rate is probably someone at junior partner level overseeing an assignment. Don’t feel too sorry for them, they still likely earn up to $1m a year.

A mate of mine worked at a large UK bank and said he used to have several McKinsey guys sitting near him all charging £7k a day but he was never quite sure what they did...

Good luck with that one - presumably you're not trying to compete with any of the established social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn etc?

I'm guessing its an inside role or a honeypot advert..

"Oh I'm sorry, that role has gone already but I have this new one paying £500 p/day just come in."

"..And now you've wasted three months on interviews and stupid tests, the client has just informed me they can only stretch to £300/day. Are you still interested?"
