That wasn't the point I was making. Mincepie said he didn't like the gig so he's asking for a rate rise. I was asking if 15 quid would make the gig good enough to stay... i.e. it's not really enough for the 'don't like the gig' argument to stick. He's clarified since that it was a bigger rise though so I can see there could be an argument to decide depending on rate.

This gig is working with a hiring manager (overseas) who is a micro manager and there are loads of politics he keeps trying to get me involved in (unsuccessfully) The partners we use are a shambles as well. Therefore the sheer nonsense of it all has me not that keen to extend hence the rate request.

Agent playing hardball and calling bluff, you know the rest dont extend or shut up etc. Warchest is 8 months so not bothered at all really but do want to do some building work at home that would halve that so may have to MTFU!

Interesting situation so genuine question for you. Do you expect the agent to swallow that out of his rate or do you fully expect it's going to have to go back to the client for a rate rise?
And your expectations of them agreeing are?

It's a negotiation surely, I did the same a while back, asked for an extra 50 notes a day, wanted 25, client offered (I was direct) 35, snapped his hand off, sorted!

It is but in this case I can't see the agent swallowing 50 quid which means the client will have to stump it up which is a different kettle of fish.
You were in a much better position being direct to negotiate that.

Granted but the agent may be prepared to swallow say £25 (depending on his %age, a 20% markup on a 500 daily rate is a 100 notes in the agents sky rocket), although being an agent he'll come back and offer 75p and swear hes robbing himself blind

To be honest i am 100% not fussed if they dont extend. I will pick something new up that will take me through to the end of the year reasonable quick and if not the warchest is ok.

I would expect the agent to swallow the 50 notes out of his margin. He said they offered 2 and i got you 3 months extension and will are confident they will extend again and then we can talk rate rise... yeah righto

I am being all quiet the client hasn't the foggiest about all this (assumption not fact). I could do with a few weeks off playing computer games and walking the dog, watching Jezza so not really bothered but that building work that the family wants done may blackmail me into accepting the current offer after all haha
