It's probably also making sure that the person who has gone through the checks is the one that turns up. Heard some great stories about the old switcheroo

As part of their "compliance check", agent for the gig I'm starting next week insisted not only a copy of my passport, but a copy of each visa and each every page that contained a entry/exit stamp. Partly my naivety I guess, during the pre-interview preamble stage I innocently happened to mention I'd spent a couple of months travelling after my last contract. Which must have equated to two months at a jihadist training camp in the eyes of some pen-pushing compliance bod.

they also insisted on a reference from my ltd co accountant, which was a first.

Nothing wrong with any of that. Why do you think you've been hard done by? What bit of compliance do you think doesn't apply to you?

So many people with so little idea. In just don't get why so many people get upset. If they ask you for something go research why. The answer will probably make sense if not a little over the top but that's life.

I've had 3 clients ask for a reference from my accountant over the last 2 years.

What sort of thing is it, a simple "Yes, their ltd co does employ our services"?

ContractorUmbrella have asked me for an iPhone 'FaceTime' interview so that they can take a screenshot of my face and then match this with the photo on my passport, which I have had to post to them in Colchester via Special Delivery. Par for the course these days.

                  Apparently.

(OK, you don't need a passport photo, but you need a picture of yourself holding up your user name on a piece of paper, so they can check that you are who you say you are.

                  Apparently).
