- Selling the contents of my garage on eBay has worked OK so far.
- Do a bit of training delivery on project management and risk management for a training company. Money's not great, but every little helps.

I'd previously thought about trying eBay to advertise IT services, I'll look into this further. Other things I've considered, mainly as a break from the IT world are:
- driving instruction, which is very popular at the moment in my area
- sports betting arbitrage, but this means more sitting at the computer
- offering bid support to service providers on a "no win/no fee" basis (which might also result in a contract down the line)

Less attractive options others have suggested include proof reading, mini-cabbing, envelope stuffing and other homeworker-oriented things.

Yeah right, when there is no contract to be had, IT experts never ever, ever, hack to make ends meet. Personally I would rather starve to death than be seduced by the 'dark side'.

Drive HGV's. Its my escape plan as well. The money is not fantastic but £120/day for sitting on your arse. The best bit is you can pick and choose the jobs and pick one up at an hours notice (literally). Oh and the scenery is no that bad. If you can get the right runs driving over the pennines is not the worst way to spend your day. Collecting milk is the best...dont ask me why but I just enjoy it.

When I'm not warehouse designing I'll do that so I can pick the jobs that I really want.

The trick is that my large outgoings (mortgage) are covered by the HGV driving so unless I do something stupid or tragic (get paralysed) I can be 99.9% assured that I can pay it.

things to do between contracts! good god, it's an embarrassement of riches, I never do "work" stuff between contracts, and If I'm lucky to have a break between one starting and the other finishing (as I have) , I've been on a cooking course (would love to take rick steins course, or dorina allen), started trumpet lessons (kids love it, neighbours don't), piano lessons - gave up, woodwork, learned to fly (thats my retirement plan), learned to sail (thats also my retirement plan, also plan to teach).

Relaxation is important, don't underestimate it!
