    Extension or new contract?

Current contract finishes on 31 December, go live is in the first week of the new year. Clientco wants to keep me on to manage the stabilisation for another 6 months - at a micro level it's a different role/deliverable, but at a macro level it's still "managing stuff". It's also a slightly different rate to fit in with the different budget, I'll be lowering my rate by a few pounds a day and the agency will be halving their cut in recognition of the 'continuing business'.

How much of a change to the contract does it need to be to be a new contract vs extension? There will effectively be no change to the underlying contract, but the statement of work will be updated with the new role and rate.

Just trying to figure it any implications on getting the contract reviewed again, and any opt in / opt out stuff.

If it's the same agent you could get a letter confirming role, rate and deliverables mentioning adhering to the terms of the last contract and you should be OK. Opt in/out status won't change.
