Indeed hence the financial risk but it's still imposed to all so not a differentiator in its own right.

As a contractor and permy I have always taken long Christmas holidays in order to stay with family at the other end of the country. I like that contracting also means I have no on-call during Christmas.

I wish I had a 12 incher... instead of this big thing.

          Fair point about MoO.

Looking at it from a different angle:

It is enforced on everyone. Permies get paid. However I don't get paid as I am not a permie. Hence I am not a permie.

That said, I haven't heard of a case that was won based on the above argument.

Probably wouldnt bother me. It happens.

Depends how desperately you need the money. I guess all you can do is take this into consideration at renewal time as to whether you want to stay or not bearing in mind they are going to do things like this.

Current client moans a bit that I take too many holidays! Tough.
Although just checked and took 27 days plus BH in last year. But then theres one guy here whos not taken a day off in three years as a contractor here. Sod that.

Of course, I'd come on here and moan. I like moaning. I also like to upset you.

But I do like time off too!

Some clients certainly seem to think so.

Or at least, they can get very tetchy, pointing out the absence of such things in the contract when you tell them you're taking that holiday.

Permies don't have to do it here, (in FS as well) it's only contractors that are kicked out over Xmas for 2 weeks.

I've been part of one of these at a bank as well but the OP did clearly state the following..

It's an FS Company so I get that there has to be a 2 week lie period for every employee, Permie or contractor, within a 12 month period, to
You are right the contractor only situation is different but was talking about this specific instance.
