QE policy funds were either diverted to the FTSE or offshore as they were only designed to stop the system failing. That's why little natural growth has happened. In 2000 the FTSE hit 6930 so in relative terms it should be a lot higher than it is now.

The people who run the banks manage to ring fence their annual performance bonuses if the market is not growing naturally its simply not possible for there to be much natural jobs growth anytime soon. Step onto any trade floor in London look at all the empty trading desks where there used to be teams of traders & other associated front office staff like IT support, dealerboard support, desk support spotfix developers even PA's team assistants etc etc

That's a lot of high paying jobs & associated salaries/contractor incomes lost.

Sixth successive slip in growth of IT contractor demand :: Contractor UK

Not just us no-one wants contractors in general right now! Its offical 6month in a row of weaker demand.

The indemand skills are the same old unicorns still does not stop someone from saying we need more immigrants to fill these roles

I think we need way less immigration to free up the jobs UK IT workers can do & allow their colleagues to cross or retrain for the niche skills. How can someone in the government think its a good idea to give all these work visa out for IT whilst UK born unemployment is rising steadily

I have been looking for Programme Manager roles for two months. It feels desparate but my metrics show the level of leads is average for the past 15 years although conversion of leads to put-forwards or interviews is roughly lower quartile.

Because they (the Government and their 'friends') dont give an excrement and saying stop giving immigrants visa's to work in UK IT never mind stop immigration, is considered racist by some.

Meanwhile, more and more skilled IT workers find they cannot get a new role while rates are artificially driven down by agencies. I saw one role for a Test Manager advertised yesterday at £175 to £225 a day at a place I worked at about a year ago and the rate for a bog standard analyst was double that lowest rate.

Then, because agencies say they cannot get any UK worker to fill the role at those pathetic rates, go crying to Government that they need to bring in cheap, foreign labour. Its happened across many sectors of UK employment so I guess we shouldnt be surprised IT is and has been seeing this for some time.
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

Yup, score above 50 is growth, what the article says is a slow down in growth.

Any specific areas you're looking in for programme manager roles? Specific industry and programme types or more generic roles?

Most of my background is FS but that has been credit checking, cards, prime and sub-prime mortgages, loans, general insurance, health insurance, life protection, regulatory change, AML, Sanctions, corporate and investment banking, systems integration, package implementation, mergers, divestitures and E-Commerce.

At the moment most jobs have quite specific domain requirements like Video channel, payment systems, CCR, stress testing, mobile banking, London Market Front Office etc etc.

                  Or the rate is low

My last 3 roles were for big companies & in each the contractors were let go in preference for onshored resources from the big consultancies; Infosys, Accenture etc...

2 of those companies had been giving me repeat business too. Not any more.

The growth is there but from my experience it looks like there is more of a tendency for larger corporations to go to the big consultancies rather than the contractor pool & perhaps this is starting to bite?

Actually, the article you linked to states that demand has risen in each of the last 6 months, it's just the rate of increase in demand is falling - demand itself is rising still.
