    What would you do?

I am two weeks into my first contract, it is 3 months in length and local to where I live. I don't think it will be extended as they are interviewing for a permenent position, however with it being not in the city they are not finding it easy to recruit.

I interviewed for a contract before this one, they have called and offered it to me, it is a 3 month contract to start in August. It is more money (a fair bit more) and for a well known company. The problem I have is - should I take this new contract, I have only been here 2 weeks and I am enjoying it, would I get a bad rep for jumping after a month, I guess the agent would not be happy and nor would the client - OR am I worrying too much and this is normal and I should just jump and follow the money and bigger company, albeit there would be added pressure etc.

Has anyone jumped so quickly after starting theur first contract, what is the flip side of doing this, am I worrying too much, would I be harming myself in the long run?

This is new to me so not as though I have been contracting for years but I have 10 years IT experience (techy).

Thanks for the advice in advance.

Get a substitute in for the current one, go do the other one.

    Simple.

I would stick with the local contract unless there is something you particularly can't bear about being there (and not about the money).

If you're going to burn bridges don't do it near home.

And don't get dazzled by the offer being a "well known company".

I normally tell people to look after number 1 and go to the higher paying contract. But, you're just 2 weeks into your first contract and are already considering ditching your first contract.

          Jesus wept.

Pretty much as I thought, I don't want to sh** on anyone and like I say it is my first contract. I am not considering ditching it was a interview I went for a few weeks back. The agency is giving it the big hard sell, texting / emailing etc. I will stay at my current role. It is my first one and I am enjoying it even though it may only be for 3 months.

I really appreicate everyone's advice, I must admit I thought everyone was going to tell me to stop being silly and follow the money etc so it is refreshing to get some balanced advice.

The difficult one's getting the second contract after you finish your first.

Oh bless! You have no idea how much you have to learn about the world of contracting. The only thing you have to offer from your ten years experience is your skill set.
It's a small world, relatively speaking, and your reputation is key. It's very tempting to dash for the cash (I speak from personal experience!) but you also have to look at the bigger picture. You will probably be quite reliant on agencies for your early roles so think carefully; you want to be remembered for your reliability, not for doing a runner two week's into a new role. A lot of the people on here get their work from work of mouth/recommendations, etc. In my field I rely very much on agencies, and will also recommend colleagues to fill roles if I'm not available (back scratching, you know the sort of thing). So welcome to the lovely world of contracting and I hope you do the right thing!!
