Like Jim Rockford, you should tell him you'll do it for your day rate plus expenses.

    Anything else, isn't worth considering.

I would say one day's rate minimum, sell it to them what you can do in a day rather than an hour, worse case you get a free trip to London, best case you get a good contact at a Client who remembers your phone number when they need someone again.

Think of it as pre-sales, you might not need a contract, a PO/Invoice should be enough assuming its direct with the clinet, I doubt the pimp cares much about such a trival amount of work

I would definitely charge for a day / half day. The hassle alone is hardly worth it.

If you're on the bench and the alternative is to sit around watching old episodes of Coronation Street, I would just offer something reasonable and go for it. Might get you a contract.

If you have several contracts on the go and you're juggling your time, then not worth the effort.
          I'm alright Jack

Agree with everyone else. Day rate plus expenses, you know it's going to be more than an hours worth of work.

The only time I would consider an hourly rate is remote working where I sit down, do the job and get back to patio with a beer

              ....

I had this once. Very specific bid of which sector I had a lot of experience.

Agent happily agreed to WFH, full day billing, 50 page bid, telephone access to client. Took 2 hours to review, was quite a good doc anyway but had no more than 15 comments on it. Client was happy, agent was happy and paid the following week.

Easiest £500 I ever made. Found out much later that the client won the bid. Never heard from the agent again though. Which may or may not be odd

Theres a point so they expect you pay you for an hour when you're in the office but not for any travelling time? Sod that.

Its not just the hour work. There is travelling time. More importantly you have to prepare for that hour work.

Get an hourly contract. Travel and preparation chargeable.

It might even lead to more work.

                      Let me think. An hour....

10 mins taking my coat off.
20 mins having a dump in their bogs.
20 mins checking out the tottie.
OK 10 mins then Im off.

                      Quick worker!
