Saw this page first: Charities need donations of IT skills

Through it found it4communities.org.uk which had some great opportunities (database migrations, cloud migrations etc) - only problem is it looks years out of date.

Anyone know of other more current forums? I've looked on the generic websites like do-it.org and charityjob.co.uk, but the most "IT Skills" the ads on these sites seem to require is to teach older people how to switch on a computer..

With all the resource on here it's a shame we couldn't do a CUK project for someone. Particularly for those on the bench struggling with demonstrable skills. Be a nightmare to manage so highly unlikely to work though.

Problem with offering any specialist skills is that charities take months to respond.

They seem to presume that people who are unemployed or have free time will be that way for months when in fact very few people who are highly skilled stay not working for long lengths of time.

Yes that is my experience too. I managed to do my last piece of work with a charity along side a paid contract and it took over 9 months to complete in the end due to delays mainly at their end reviewing what I had done. Interesting work though and not something I would do normally for a client so a refreshing change and well worth it.
