finishing contract at end date - notice period required?

Just wondering if I was to finish my contract at the end of its current cycle, would I be required to work a notice period?
There is a breach clause in my contract, but not sure if I could be in breach of contract if I decided not to renew & refused to work any notice period.

    This has been done before.

When your contract ends (on the end date stated in your contract) that is it. It has ended. You dont work a notice period beyond that. Unless you want to and are happy to do it for free.

Do you know what MOO is?!

Had one client who regularly left extensions until the last day and often later. Once or twice I had a day off.

They regularly used to moan that I did this because they had an idea in their head I had to give 4 weeks notice even if contract was at end. i.e. I had to give them 4 weeks notice that I wasnt going to renew in effect.

So they left it until the day before but they wanted 4 weeks from me.

No matter how many times I tried to explain it never sunk in.

Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if I ever did decline. In the end, they gave me about 3 days notice that contract wasnt being extended.

Correct! You must also work your notice period when your contract ends!

          Good luck.

I really dont know why you put up with such shyte. Perhaps you should read an Eleanor Roosevelt quote and empower yourself more?

I'd have explained the first time, then just said "No, it doesn't work like that" the next time.

Cause they couldn't find anyone to fill the spot in time so had to reluctantly keep him on IMO.

Speak softly and carry a big stick?

Or is that the wrong Roosevelt I'm thinking off?

I'm in the same position potentially (see thread "A bird in the hand..."). On reviewing all my contracts etc closely there doesn't appear to be any MOO issues and once the date is up that's it assuming I don't sign an extension.
