What you need is a Contractor-Car, Rover 800-series, Old Jag, Vauxhall Carlton, doesn't matter so long as it has a decent ticket and long tax, stops, starts and goes round corners....

2 grand on a piece of tulip with 4 wheels and 6 mths tax and mot, sell it at the end for a grand and it cost you a grand plus running costs.

Why do you think it takes 2-3 months to buy a car

          Waste of money.

          Either:
          1. Buy a second hand car like already said
          2. Go to the dealer for a car you like and buy one with something like 15 miles on the clock so some of the depreciation would have been done for you.

It's amazing what you can get for £400-£1000 a lot of the time. Then it's paid down, no credit, and you can quite often offload it at cost when you want to move on even years later.

perfectly acceptable with the 1.9 engine.

The auto bit would be my concern...
