I've been on LinkedIn for a few years and have actually got one contract as result. I'm constantly being nagged to try this Premium Account thing, that wants to charge after I've tried it for a month. Has anyone done this and got value from it? Also, has anyone done the trial period thing and successfully managed to cancel and avoid payment?

Main problem with LI is that it doesn't have a filter for permie/contract roles last time I looked.
I did the trial thing, couldn't see much added value so canceled during the period, it wasn't that difficult. -
I did pay for 12 months, but changed back to free at next renewal.
The reasons I would pay, and did pay, are basically to
1 see who the anonymous profile views are from
and
2 to be able to find old mates more easily
were both not really helped by the paid for service. the anonymous profile views are still anonymous, and its not significantly easier to track down old mates.Comment

Just to add weight, I also have done the free trial for a month (possibly 2 months, can't remember) and then cancelled with no issue. Actually, it was even better than 'cancelled with no issue'. In fact I managed to mess up and cancel a day or two late. I thought they'd charge me a full month at whatever ridiculous rate it is (£39.99 I think). But they actually refunded me prorata, so I paid for the couple of days, but they refunded the rest of the month. I thought this was really pretty fair.
As another reply said, I joined primarily to see who was stalking me but I didn't get a lot of extra info over the emails they send you. It's certainly not worth £39.99 IMHO. I've got an interview tomorrow from a recruiter who contacted me on LinkedIn. I get regular contacts and my understanding is that's partly because my profile's very complete. I didn't know anything about LinkedIn until I got made redundant and got free help from Lee Hecht Harrison, outplacement consultants. I found their info on using LinkedIn very helpful. Basically, if your profile is complete enough to get 'All Star' status its puts you higher up the search results when people search for keywords.
Sorry if everyone else in the world, including the OP, knew this already ! just thought I'd mention it in case it helps somebody. I certainly don't see a reason to pay £39.99 a month to them. At the moment they're trying to get me back again with a 'half price for 2 months' offer. Nope, wouldn't even be worth £20...Comment

I found a site that showed you how to get a premium LI account for only £8 ish per month so around 80/90 for the year if paid up front.
I paid it so I could get InMails and contact potential clients direct. I changed it to job seeker at £25 pm but felt it did not give me much extra so I cancelled it. Currently on the free acct.
Depends what you want it for.

I've got a premium account albeit paid for by clientco as I am admin for the company. Most useful thing I find is it shows who's been looking at your profileOriginally posted by KenWhite View PostI've been on LinkedIn for a few years and have actually got one contract as result. I pay for it purely to fuel my narcissism. Got lots of agents chase me around the block, but nothing materialised as I was always in contract at the time.Comment
