    Reference from pimp

Recently had a situation where I was moving from one contract to another and the destination end client insisted on 10 years worth of references from the agencies who had arranged previous assignments. Managed to get references set up from all apart from the last agent who was a bit miffed that I was moving on. Asked them to provide a reference which would only confirm the assignment for the end client and the dates but they refused as it was apparently not company policy.

Any ideas for an alternative course of action in case I need a reference in the future from the agency?

I know clients stopped giving out references in the 90s. But agencies! Wow.

A good reason to be nice to the agent - at least on the surface.

Of course you could get the same information from the contract - but its not really the same.

Do youn have any letters on from the company? Create your own reference? Type up the words you want, then cut and glue over the top of the letter. Then photocopy. Don't use scissors as it creates a shadow.

Or get a mate to give a fake reference by phone?

That sounds utter bollocks to me. I would ring the reception and speak to a senior bod there and do some digging.

There is actually no legal requirement to give anyone a reference but most people oblige if it's just dates they want.

Am aware of that but an agent not willing to confirm dates of engagement is just ridiculous. If that was the case the contracting system would be in trouble as we cannot give any references even when it the agents need them for genuine purposes, and it's the agents causing the problems.

Ring them and cause a stink IMO. Very poor attitude this.
