What's the worst interview you've ever had?

I must say I haven't had a lot of interviews as I've always had my contracts sorted out through my network. Most interviews I've had were over the phone - 20 - 30 min i.e. standard ones.

A couple of weeks ago I went to interview for a client face to face and it lasted 2 hours!! I thought they were going to pay me in gold every month! I was exhausted and lost interest after an hour. Asked to present on a whiteboard and what not. I did not get selected but I had two contract offers in the bag at the time already.

So what's the worst you've ever had for a contract position? Was there a time you thought the interviewer was a pr*ck and you just could not get along with him/her even if you got the contract?

It would be interesting to hear your experiences.

Not had any when I was interviewee but recently was involved in interviewing a contractor. He was so thick the interview lasted 2 hours as we had to explain everything to him in length, when we asked him to present on the whiteboard he revealed he couldn't write and ran out the interview having pissed himself crying.

About 10 years ago, I was interviewed for a contract. I didn't like the place and one of the interviewers (Technical Manager or something stupid like that) really annoyed me.

Standard C++ questions quickly descended into an argument about whether you can do something or not. Finally, having decided that I didn't want the gig, I sent Technical Manager boy out to get a copy of Stroustrup to prove himself wrong. I wasn't offered the gig for some reason.

About 3 years ago I was invited to meet a poxy little company in Northern Ireland who wanted an Infrastructure guy. Having 14 years experience all of which as a contractor with big names, I'm used to a quick chat & start. These guys placed a GCSE Maths & English paper set on the desk & said, "we'll be back in an hour". I wrote "f*** off" on both & walked out. Jeez!

Lucky my "go to" coffee/cake/chillout place was just down the road, otherwise I may have invoiced for them wasting my time!

The other ones are the 'face to face' ones (wastes of time!) where they fire out all sorts of crap which is in no way related to the gig described by the pimp. Those are often funny

Had an interview at Finance Company once.
The 1st interview with the IT managers was great , we had a friendly chat and I passed the tech questions.
But the 2nd was with the Boss and he was like David Brent! He even said "Why should I hire you... Go!"

Ha ha good one. I guess that's why they say "never argue with the interviewer". But when you get a kn*b, you just can't help it.

Once had a surprise interview call one Saturday afternoon in 1996 from some company in New York about a role (must have been a permie job with hindsight) - nice lass, keen to talk and I had to abruptly cut her off and say "It's Euro 96, England - Spain about to kick off, can you call back at half time?'

                    Didn't call back.....
