Why should Shetland and Orkney get special dispensation, why not Stornaway, and Mull to name but two others. -
The Western Isles are indeed sometimes included on that list.Originally posted by Yorkie62 View PostWhy should Shetland and Orkney get special dispensation, why not Stornaway, and Mull to name but two others.Comment

As someone already pointed out, they're all part of the Nation of Scotland.Originally posted by Old Greg View PostAs long as Shetland and Orkney get a referendum on their status in the event of Scottish Independence.
You guys must at least have heard of something called 'national identity' and 'national pride'.
I swear, it's a great thing and goes way beyond cheering for the same football team.Comment

Because it really pisses some Scots off!Originally posted by MattZani View PostGreat, so why don't you guys just let us have a second referendum. Or even why don't you have a referendum to kick us out of the UK?
Either way, will be a win for Scotland

And if they ever let you in, EU rules would prevent anyone from setting fire to any of it. Even Scotland (the home of comedy cuisine) cannot find a culinary use for crude oil, so if you did achieve independence, it would be around 60 years too late.Originally posted by Batcher View PostThere are huge expanses of oil fields all around Scotland, Orkney and Shetland. Shetland has been a part of the country of Scotland since the late 15th century, just as Scotland has been part of the nation state of Great Britain, then UK since 1707. Scotland has been it the union for longer than Shetland was in an independent Scotland. Shetland also deserves the right of self determination.Originally posted by MattZani View PostAs someone already pointed out, they're all part of the Nation of Scotland.

Oh don't you worry about that. Despite having plenty reasons for hating you, we're better than that. We're the bigger person in this relationship.Originally posted by Mordac View PostWe're worried no-one will ever hate us as much as you lot do...
You're just an old girlfriend whom we don't love anymore and we want to get rid of but you keep clawing our legs and try to drag us down.
Enjoy our company until it lasts
