Enough about me, Ministrone. How many days did you spend in Ireland last year, to be so informed as to the zeitgeist?

You see, no 'Irish' person would ever say when questioned about their Irishness reply "I am a citizen and live in Ireland".

That is kind of my point. Like you Leo would never understand the layers of "how exactly do you spell that second name", "what school did you say you went to", "are you a Rugby fan" and the inflections in the letter H.

The Irish will never see you as Irish, they will see Gene Kelly and Michael Flatley as more Irish than you. But you, you are English and they will never forget that no matter how much you comfort yourself with the "contemporary Ireland" blanket.

The place is a hellscape of unimaginable tulipness, even brutal dictatorships and communist regimes haven't lost as many people to migration as Ireland. The numbers don't lie. Quite why you would move their and sign up for a passport is a deep sign of your fruitbattery.

The family left 130 years ago, but still, i've got the Irish name and i'll still be regarded as 'irish' by many Irish. Like they think JFK was Irish.

No. You would just be viewed as a sad alcoholic plastic paddy. You have no understanding of the country that delivered landslide votes for equal marriage and abortion rights.

I would have though my unwavering line of "I'm going to enjoy seeing Ireland get messed up next year for being total arses" would suggest I have no level of interest in having an understanding about what Ireland is thinking.
