Up until about 6 months ago, a “No Deal” Brexit was a “catastrophic” Brexit. Somewhere along the line the language changed so that it became a “hard” Brexit (which was formerly the Canada option), and then it morphed into the “WTO rules” Brexit.

By definition, given the state of preparation and based upon the Government’s own notices, a No Deal Brexit will be disorderly....

Yes but he was simply making up new scenarios and saying if this happened everything would be bad.

If a giant space rock hits britain we will all be flat

Does not mean there is a giant space rock going to hit Britain in the next 50,000 years though.

It is scaremongering, he tried it after the Brexit vote and it did not come to pass and he is trying it again - but sadly the boy has already cried wolf.

That is literally his job, to model worst case scenarios to stress test the banks. If he didn’t do that, everyone would be complaining that he was being complacent and allowing another GFC.

This may be hard for you to believe, but the BoE modelling is based on financial scenarios, not end of world scenarios.

He hasn’t “tried” anything. Post-referendum and again last year the BoE modelled several scenarios to stress-test the banks, and the usual papers (DM, S*n, etc) picked it up as BoE “forecasts” instead of modelling.

It’s not his or our fault that you read that shyte. If anyone is scaremongering, it is the red tops, as usual.

          as usual.
All he has to do is come out and tell everyone that - but that is not what is happening - it is being peddled as fact and he is not contradicting and clarifying which is what he should be doing.

Is not telling the whole truth and not correcting those who twist your words not the same as lying?

He’s a civil servant, not a politician or commentator. By convention, civil servants do not usually provide additional clarifying statements.

Having said that though, here he is after the last uproar only a couple of months ago. Note the date: the furore over what was said in a cabinet meeting happened in September, and he didn’t comment until October.

Maybe you’ll get a clarifying statement in a month or two. Or maybe you should just stop reading the DM.

            https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...to-u-k-cabinet

Mark Carney has confirmed that he was laying out the Bank of England’s stress-test scenarios for lenders when he addressed senior U.K. ministers last month on the dangers of a no-deal Brexit.

Following that cabinet meeting, it was reported that the BOE governor had warned that crashing out of the European Union without an agreement could see mortgage rates raised even as economic output and house prices tumble.

In a letter on Wednesday to Nicky Morgan, chair of the Treasury Committee, Carney said he was discussing stress scenarios that are “not predictions of what is most likely to happen, but rather estimates of worst-case scenarios however unlikely they may be.”

In fact, here is Reuters reporting part of his statement. You’re welcome.

Extreme Brexit could be worse than financial crisis for UK - BoE | Reuters

“Parliament has demanded this analysis,” he said. “It’s not supposed to make people scared, it’s supposed to provide reassurance that, even if this happened, which is not likely, the system is more than ready for it.”

So Mr Carney can you tell us what the impact of Brexit will be?

Mr Carney - So in my completely unlikely - in fact probability of it happening is as close to zero to be negligible - the pound will tank, inflation will soar and interest rates will rise.

Ok Thanks Mr Carney - and could you give us an idea of what might happen in one of the more probably scenarios?

Mr Carney - (mumble mumble maybe a 3.9% gdp decrease over 15 years possibly mumble mumble)

Ok that's marvellous so could you sum it up for us?

Mr Carney : We're doomed all doomed.

Stick to the facts and stop the ridiculous scaremongering.

How about you tell us what is going to happen, provide the facts, the details, the whole kaboodle, c'mon, Brexiters have all the answers....
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

I think it was summed up perfectly yesterday ... OPM and his pals are sealioning .... they have no interest in answers to their questions. Their questions are merely attempts to troll. Best just treat them as the scaredy-cats that they are, afraid of the bogey men in Brussels and their own shadows.

I wonder how they get on in life. They must be an absolute nightmare to work with.
