On the news last night it said that the tyre plant was closing because of a lack of demand for the 16in tyres it produces - as new cars these days seem to be getting ever bigger wheels

The EU to a minor degree provides a defence against globalisation. These jobs have been lost because of globalisation. Once we are out, we are exposed to the full blast of these forces. However Brexiteers don't care because they are inclined - to a greater or lesser degree - to believe 'free' trade is an unalloyed good thing. I believe the reverse although I accept it's a matter of opinion. It has been good at times in the past but that doesn't mean it's good at this point. Brexiteers will however not believe Brexit made things worse.
