    Philip Hammond 'poised to launch Budget raid on income tax' to fund PM's £20bn boost for NHS

    Philip Hammond could ditch a Conservative Party manifesto commitment to raise the income tax threshold as he seeks the cash to fund Theresa May’s £20billion NHS funding pledge.

    The Tories vowed at the 2017 general election to increase the personal allowance - the amount of income a person can earn before paying tax - to £12,500 and the higher rate to £50,000 by 2020.

    But the Chancellor is reportedly considering postponing the increases or even scrapping them when he delivers the Budget on October 29.

    Such a move would place the Chancellor on a collision course with many Tory MPs who believe the party must stick to its election pledges.

    Why is it posted here? Because due to fooking Brexit the economy is growing slower than before, which means less tax revenues. Well done cretins for helping increase income taxation (and there will be other taxes coming in October)

    It'll not happen.
    Remember last time a Tory chancellor tried to go back on a manifesto commitment?
    It was Hammond, in 2016 when he tried to raise NICs for self-employed.
    When May called a GE they had their chance to remove those commitments but didn't. They're more likely to get away with cancelling Brexit.

      Yeah, they've learnt their lesson - there is NO manifesto commitment this time around

      Plus, those commitment not worth the paper they are written on - the only reason they've delayed (not cancelled) increase in NI was because they planned to go to General Election soon after that.

      AFAIK NICs increase is going ahead now anyway
