That Express article is tragic. So much hurt and anger. But they need to pull their socks up, apply a stiff upper lip and militate for the firm government needed NOW. Demand a €100 billion payment from the EU to the UK, to maintain EU access to UK markets - hint look at the balance of trade and remember that the UK holds all the cards!

The angry backlash against a massive divorce bill was fueled by European Commission’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier yesterday, who said Britain could have no access to single market benefits and British banks could not have any passporting rights.

The insult to Britain came as the Prime Minister chaired a meeting of her Brexit “war cabinet” to discuss increasing the offer to the EU with pro-Remain Chancellor Philip Hammond said to be pushing for a £36 billion divorce bill.

Speaking to the Centre for European Reform conference in Brussels, Mr Barnier said that UK-based financial services companies may be able to operate in the EU post-Brexit on the basis of "equivalent" regulations, they will "lose their European passport" and any future agreements will be subject to the proviso that Brussels will "never compromise on financial stability".

He later added that Britain’s refusal to accept free movement meant it would have “no single market benefits”.

His aggressive stance undermined his earlier claim that he wanted to give the UK “the most ambitious free trade deal” in EU history.

And in a final insult he said that there will be “no ambitious partnership without common ground on fair competition.

Meanwhile, reacting to Mr Barnier’s speech, Tory MP Peter Bone said: “Mr Barnier if the EU is trying to blackmail us for a divorce bill there needs to be something on the other side.

“Instead, Mr Barnier has confirmed what we all knew that there is no point in dealing with these people.

“We should leave and have a clean Brexit on WTO rules, making our own rules and controlling our own borders and not pay them a penny.

“When they are ready and realise they are worse off they can come and ask us for a free trade deal.”

It may be as much a case of which MPs, as how many. The letter from Gove and Johnson, with JRM frothing in the background suggest it's going to be difficult to hold it together, in terms both of May's leadership (which we always knew was doomed), and an agreed direction of travel for Brexit, which the Cabinet broadly signs up to..

Doesn't she agree this stuff with her cabinet before making any announcements?

Wouldn't the sensible thing be for May, Davis, and Hammond to sit down with the cabinet first and agree on what they actually want so they can present a combined and agreed view of their position?

Theresa May failed to lose the General Election, so maybe she is now trying to engineer enough rebellion to cause collapse of the current government and drum up an excuse for another election? Surely she does not want to be at the helm of this mess right now?

TM must be looking at Merkel and Mugabe with some envy right now.

If the UK is smart, it will insist on denominating the bill in GBP. A good dose of hyperinflation would deal with that.
