Based on the fact that its a crazy notion that you have to move cities to be able to claim expenses. also (and this come from a guy who works in HMRC) they really dont give a sh about you claiming a tenner a day for food and travel (unless you are reviewed for another more serious matter)Comment

Which would indicate they do give a sh... They have an expectation that you will run your finances responsibly and adhere to legislation though. 20 years of tenners might seem trivial to you now but it's gonna be a bombshell when they do investigate you. If it is such an insignificant amount why are you bothering pushing the boundaries and claiming it then?Originally posted by Underscore Pt2 View PostBased on the fact that its a crazy notion that you have to move cities to be able to claim expenses. also (and this come from a guy who works in HMRC) they really dont give a sh about you claiming a tenner a day for food and travel (unless you are reviewed for another more serious matter)
With that attitude you might as well falsify your entire accounts. Why go for only a tenner a day.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

Then I hope for your sake that you don't have such disregard for other HMRC rules as you do for the 24 month rule as 20 years x a tenner a day would leave you with a fairly sizeable tax billOriginally posted by Underscore Pt2 View PostBased on the fact that its a crazy notion that you have to move cities to be able to claim expenses. also (and this come from a guy who works in HMRC) they really dont give a sh about you claiming a tenner a day for food and travel (unless you are reviewed for another more serious matter)Comment

That may be perfectly valid as an expense claim, depending on where you live, your mode of travel and whether any of the journeys are significantly different.Originally posted by Underscore Pt2 View PostI've worked nowhere but this same city for 20 yrs as a contractor. If they aren't, then if you were to be caught then 20 years of dodgy expense claims could be very expensive.Comment

It's a crazy notion that I have to pay tax at all. Should I follow that advice and stop paying?Originally posted by Underscore Pt2 View PostBased on the fact that its a crazy notion that you have to move cities to be able to claim expenses.Comment

All I can think is that they live in the centre of a city and all thier contracts are on different edges of that same city, so each commute, whilst small, is significantly different. And even then I'm clutching at straws.Originally posted by LisaContractorUmbrella View PostBased on what??"Israel, Palestine, Cats." He Said

You could well be right NickNick - be nice if HMRC defined 'significant' wouldn't itOriginally posted by NickNick View PostAll I can think is that they live in the centre of a city and all thier contracts are on different edges of that same city, so each commute, whilst small, is significantly different.
