We recommend them as they are fee-free, they just work on the basis of the commission from the mortgage provider. I used them last year and was really happy with the service provided, and that it didn't cost me £500...

You can always try using my wife's services as a Mortgage Advisor? Her company DOES levy a charge (but only on acceptance of an actual mortgage application), but her services as a Professional have a value (would you use a Free Accountant?).
Guaranteed to get a better rate and products that are not available to the "man on the street" (if not, you will be advised to use your existing provider...at no cost.)

trying to move house at the moment.
have 2 small defaults on my credit score from 3 years ago (accounts taken out in my name by my now ex wife, but cant be proved)
and I am struggling to find/get a mortgage, even though I am in contract, 4 years accounts and perfect credit score.
My current mortgage with Halifax initially said yes, but when it came to an actually application they said no
So a broker has recommended the Clydesdale and currently applying to themComment

I think the problem is that you are not his only customer. Clearly you don't want to be a customer but even so you can't correct a problem unless you have a means of identifying what the problem is.
