I buy all my electronic equipment via my business, regardless of if I will ever use it for that. It's one of the benefits of running a business. How can is ever be proven you don't use it for your business?

Its not whether it can be proven that is important, its whether it is true. Doesn't honesty come into it anywhere?

I'm running a business not a Church, see Starbucks, Amazon, Google, Mittal etc.

What? So only Churches are honest and being in business gives you carte blanche to act dishonestly? I assume you also claim benefits you're not entitled to and help yourself to other people's newspapers and milk off their doorsteps?

If its needed for business then buy it. Otherwise leave it.

My powerline plugs packed in that connect my NAS to router.

The NAS has my invoices, website, data etc... so I bought a new pair of plugs. If I didnt have the NAS then I wouldnt need to sockets.

All I would add is that the line between laptops and tables is getting pretty blurred; the days of an iPad being a novelty item only for playing angry birds on etc are passing. Laptops are available with capacitive touchscreens and there are 'convertibles'. So a convergence. In terms of OS, windows 8 & windows RT are probably indicating the direction (i.e. merging of environments) of the software side of things.

So if you would claim a laptop as an expense in the near future a tablet would fall into the same category if it's not there already.

What? How am I trolling, lots of contractors do this as well as pay small salary with dividends to pay less tax. Why have a LTD company and not take advantage of the tax breaks.

Would a tablet help my business - yes.
Is a tablet an absolute necessity to run my business - no.

I've just asked another contractor at work what he would do & he said 'just get one'. He even put a sat nav through the business because it 'helps me get to interviews on time but 99% of the time it's for personal use'.

There certainly seems no definitive answer here & it is down to the individual with what they are comfortable with.

Ok, so what do you think it would help you with for your business? Help as in allow you to browse web, read emails, the things a smartphone can do? Take notes? Be more mobile?

If he uses a satnav for 1% of the time to get to interviews he is doing something wrong IMO lol....

See how many people know about IR35 on your site while you are at it. Will give you an idea who is at least taking it seriously.

But yes, at the end of the day you are correct, what do YOU want to do.

Might as well buy a camera so you can take photos for your corporate brochure
