    Turned down the "gig"

Well, first time it's happened. I turned the gig down after getting an offer.

When it came to getting the scope of work agreed in writing after interview the client wasn't interested. They wanted me to move me around doing various tasks as they saw fit. They weren't even interested in having something as vague as "Maintains, updates and bug fixes X".

I'd be expected to "muck in" with the rest of the "team"

Not sure I went about it the right way though. I cited my reasons for defining scope as not wanting to be under D&C with regards to IR35, probably should have said some business reason such as my insurances would be invalid, etc. Mind you, moments earlier they mentioned that they weren't interested in me having any PI insurance.

It's probably for the best that this was bought up before I started on site

I think protecting yourself from IR35 is business reasons, if you are doing something you know is gonna put your business as risk.

you've never turned down a client before?

Very valid business reason. It's up to you to select the best opportunities for your company. This sounds like it was going to add costs or other issues.

Yep - never turned down client before (only done contracting for 3-ish years)

Anyway... on the plus side, had another interview next day and got the gig too!! This time managed to get a statement about scope of work, so all good

If UKIP are the answer, then it must have been a very stupid question.
