My umbrella experience
I've been around quite a bit. My experience is as follows:
Orange Genie - customer service was a shambles, so I changed to...
Contractor Umbrella - excellent service but was PAYE, no dividends so changed to...
Safe Solutions - OK, not entirely professional and poor online portal, had to chase up payments every now and again. No travel or subsistence claims so changed to...
Giant - excellent online portal and customer servce, fast and reliable payment so far (3 weeks only). Wish I'd used them earlier, highest take-home pay yet, and they tell you how much top-up tax to set aside.Comment

Just wait till the IR come round and do a check on you, your high take home will become a thumping tax liability when you can't produce receipts for all of your expenses. You should have the same take home form every umbrella, the only difference is the fee's they charge.Comment

I don't buy this. People who preach "wait till the IR come after you" are probably just bitter about paying more tax,. Do any of you actually have experience of this?Originally posted by Ardesco

And what's with the spam sign? Can you use real words please?Comment

You have hardly any posts, yet are pimping Giant as well as you can. The spam sign signifies the fact that I belive you have an ulterior motive and are not presenting an unbiased view.
As for the tax thing, if you are claiming expenses that you do not have recipts for you are breaking the law and will get f*cked over in an IR investigation (as you should) You can claim what you want through anybody as it is your ass on the line, but the more reputable umbrella companies try and make sure you don't claim anything and everything when you can't as they don't want to see you get screwed over.
And for the record i'm not bitter as I have a LTD co and will have a better take home rate than you as I don't have to pay umbrella charges.

I've heard that before. I've checked with the IR and they are fine with it and that's all that matters.
Are you saying that new members can't give an opinion? So am I supposed to post unhelpful bullsht for the first 1000 posts? I gave my honest opinion on all the umbrella's I've used which I'm sure the majority people will find helpful. Take it or leave it.
I've actually been a member here for over 18 months, just haven't used it since. Today is the first time.
I heard that there were a lot of idiots on this forum but it seems have gotten worse since I last used it.
I'm very pleased with 83% take home pay conidering everything is taken care of for me and I don't have any accounts to worry about each month.Comment
